Canon of Yaounde FC have arrived Douala for a one week preparations camp ahead of the 2022/23 MTN Elite One championship title play-offs tournament to run from May 14-21 in the football loving city.
Coach Souleymanou Aboubakar and his charges got into Douala this Sunday afternoon and moved into their base to intensify preparations for the four-clubs tournament which gets underway next Sunday.
Canon who are chasing their first top-flight championship title since 2002 are keen on finishing what has already been a great season in style.
The Kpakum who won group A after beating title holder Cotonsport at home and away are expected to get their play-off underway with a tough fixture against Bamboutos FC of Mbouda at a venue the Cameroon Transitional Technical Committee (CTFP) is yet to announce.
They will face newcomers Gazelle FA in the next game on May 19 before capping the competition with the cliffhanger against defending champions Cotonsport of Garoua.
The Canon versus Bamboutos FC fixture is expected to pull thousands of fans to Douala, just like the rest of the play-off matches.
Canon are keen to add to their 10 domestic championship titles so far by winning the silverware for the first time since Jean Paul Akono’s side last did so some 21 years ago.
The winner of this season’s championship will get 50 Millions FCFA plus the same amount in ad-ons as the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) led by president Samuel Eto’o Fils has increased the prize money in a bit to get more from the participants.
