In what became a surprise to many, the U16 lions of Cameroon have been announced as the replacement for Brazil in the 2025 Montaigu Football World Cup, slated to kick off on 14, April 2025.
According to the organizers, Brazil’s withdrawal from the tournament was due to financial issues that prevented them from traveling to Vendée. “Our first contact dates back to April 18, 2024, and with each follow-up, they promised a positive response,” said Anthony Thibaud, co-president of the Montaigu Football World Cup (MFM). “Today, they cited financial issues for not being able to travel to Vendée,” added Franck Co-president.
Fortunately for them, their extensive network and tournament’s reputation , the organizing committee was able to quickly find a suitable replacement. Following a discussion with Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), the decision was made to invite Cameroon’s U16 team to participate.
“We had to act fast, two months before the start, and the Indomitable Lions U16 are not just making up the numbers. They have already won the tournament four times,” the co-presidents. added
Cameroon will join Ivory Coast, China, and France in Group A. The Easter tournament will take place from April 14 to 21, 2025.
The official confirmation of Cameroon’s participation was received on February 24 at 8:20 pm, marking a new development in the 2025 Montaigu Football World Cup.
