Cameroon’s Under-17 side sealed the 2026 Uniffac U17 Tournament title in emphatic fashion on Matchday Four, defeating DR Congo 2-0 in Kinshasa to complete a flawless campaign.
First-half striker Rony Baliag Nougi set the tone early on before Arnold Massekon doubled the advantage after the break, as the young Indomitable Lions underlined their dominance at the Stade Tata Raphaël.
The victory means Cameroon finish the regional tournament with three wins from three matches, scoring freely and conceding little, to lift the Uniffac crown and book their place at the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Early breakthrough settles nerves
Playing in front of a partisan home crowd in Kinshasa, Cameroon showed composure beyond their years. After a measured opening spell, Rony Baliag Nougi struck in the 10th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse to fire the visitors ahead.
The early goal silenced the stands and handed Cameroon control of proceedings. Confident in possession and disciplined off the ball, the young Lions dictated the tempo while limiting DR Congo’s attacking threat.
Massekon seals it
Any hopes of a Congolese comeback were effectively ended four minutes into the second half. Arnold Massekon found space inside the area and made no mistake in the 49th minute, doubling Cameroon’s lead with a clinical finish.
From there, the Central African champions managed the game professionally, frustrating their hosts and showing tactical maturity to see out the result.
Perfect campaign, bigger stage awaits
Cameroon’s triumph crowns a perfect run at the 2026 Uniffac U17 Tournament — three matches, three victories — confirming their status as one of the region’s most promising youth sides.
Beyond the trophy, qualification for the 2026 U17 AFCON is the ultimate prize. The continental tournament will offer these youngsters a broader platform to showcase their talent and continue Cameroon’s proud tradition at youth level.
For now, though, the celebrations belong to a new generation of Indomitable Lions who marched into Kinshasa and left as champions.
