- The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched a four-day inspection of stadiums in Cameroon in preparation for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers
- The team will assess several venues, including Omnisport, Japoma, Ngueme, Olembe, and Kuekong Stadiums, while notably excluding the Roumde Adjia Stadium due to concerns over its condition
The confederation of African football (CAF) has initiated a four-day inspection mission to evaluate Cameroon’s stadium facilities ahead of match days three and four of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The inspection team commenced their tour at the Omnisport Stadium on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 5 PM. Following this, they are scheduled to visit the Japoma Stadium on Thursday at 9 AM, before heading to Ngueme Stadium in Limbe later that day.
On Friday, the team will assess Olembe Stadium before wrapping up their tour with an inspection of the Kuekong Stadium in Bafoussam on Saturday.
Notably absent from this itinerary is the Roumde Adjia Stadium, which previously hosted the AFCON qualifiers against Namibia.
While no official reason has been provided for its exclusion, one could speculate that the stadium’s deteriorating conditions, particularly the poor pitch quality experienced during the game against Namibia, may have influenced this decision—or it simply wasn’t submitted for inspection.
In the lead-up to these inspections, it has been confirmed that Cameroon’s upcoming match against Kenya will take place at Japoma Stadium.
Although the venue hasn’t welcomed the Indomitable Lions for nearly a year, it has hosted various sporting events, including the African Athletics Championship.
Final confirmation regarding the suitability of these venues will depend on the findings from CAF’s inspection team, which has been instructed to document their evaluations with photographs.
