Bayelsa Queens today, Wednesday 27 March, 2024, showed that they are determined to match their ambition of winning the 2023/24 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership (NWFL) with the hard work required for the purpose when they beat visiting hard fighting Remo Stars Ladies of Ikenne at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Ovom, Yenagoa, 3-1 to maintain top spot in group B with 22 points.

The Prosperity Girls, came into the match with a very high spirit, and got the curtain raiser in the 29 minute through Chinyere Igboamalu as the first half ended one-nil in favour of the host.

Bayelsa Queens maintained their momentum when the second half resumed, but Precious Vincent silenced the home crowd when she equalized for Remo Stars Ladies in the 55 minutes with a tapped in from a goalkeeping error.

From then it was Remo Stars Ladies that controlled the game, but the introduction of Shakirat Moshood in the 60 minutes for Bayelsa Queens changed the match and the Yenagoa landladies fought back to take the lead again as Shakirat Moshood scored the second goal for Bayelsa Queens in the 66 minutes and in the 72nd minute Aderemi Mary got the third goal through a long range shot to make it 3-1 to put the game beyond the reach of Remo Stars Ladies.

Technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens, Domo Okara said “I am shocked at the way Remo Stars Ladies gave us a good fight and my girls played below expectations, but the most important thing is the three points. You know this is the group of death and the visitors are no push overs”.

“We still have a whole lots of work to do as you can see that today’s game was not too fascinating, but like I said earlier the three points is the most important thing and I know we will do better on our next match away to Delta Queens next week”, Okara added.

On her part, Coach Wemimo Mathew of Remo Stars Ladies said “they did their best, you know in the game of football you win some, draw some and lose some. But I give kudos to my girls as they fight till the end and again when Bayelsa Queens scored the second goal that shocked my girls, but in all they played a good game”.

Next for Bayelsa Queens is a Match day 12 encounter against Delta Queens in Asaba on the 3rd if April, 2024.
