  •  Zambia’s Barbra becomes the first woman to score three hat-tricks in Olympic games
  • She got another hat-trick as Australia Defeated Zambia 5-6
  • Nigeria’s Super Falcons also suffered a defeat to Spain

Zambia’s highest goal scorer Barbra Banda made history on Sunday evening as she became the first woman to score three hat tricks in the Olympics games.

The 24-year-old scored a hat-trick while Rachel Kundananji got a brace, but wasn’t enough as the Shepolopolo surrendered a 5-2 lead to loss by 5-6 to Australia.

Having had a reputation as the ‘most in-form forward in the world’, Banda who came into the tournament as one of the players with huge expectation on and hasn’t disappoint.

Being her 5th match in the Olympics 2024 in Paris, Banda scored a first-half and thought she had done enough only for Australia to rally late and claim all three points.

Zambia’s captain, through her outstanding performance, became the first player in the Olympics to score hat-tricks in three different matches.  She did so against the Republic of China and Nigeria in the previous Olympics though she was exited in the group stages.

And yet again, she backs up her name in the 2024 season of the Olympics with a thrilling three goals added to her name in a breathless 11-goal thriller during Zambia’s face-off against Australia that ended in favor of the Aussies 6-5.

It should be noted that it is the first time in women’s football that both teams have scored five goals.

Barbra Banda is a typical example of an inspiring young woman who aspires to become a footballer, given her career which started on the streets of Lusaka where football was a taboo for young women and later joined Green Buffaloes and later became the first Zambian woman to play in Europe.,

In a related development, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, despite their strong defense system, still conceded a goal, thereby losing to Spain 0-1.
