When the ball tips off at Pretoria’s SunBet Arena on March 27, it won’t just open a new season, it will ignite the boldest chapter yet of the Basketball Africa League.
BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall says Season 6 will raise the bar across the continent, blending elite competition, culture, and global ambition.
*“The BAL will continue to do more for the growth of African basketball,”* Fall said. *“We want to build this competition into one of the best leagues in the world, and the talent on this continent gives us that confidence.”*
The 2026 season will once again span Africa, moving from South Africa to Morocco before culminating in Rwanda. Twelve top clubs from 12 countries will clash across 42 games, all chasing a place in the Finals at Kigali’s BK Arena.
Fall believes the league’s success goes far beyond trophies. *“We take pride in seeing how the BAL brings together elite talent in world-class facilities,”* he said. *“Over five seasons, we’ve elevated the standard of basketball and created real opportunities for players, coaches, and officials.”*
Looking ahead, innovation is key. *“We’re exploring a new format with more permanent teams and more games in top venues,”* Fall revealed. *“But the league will remain open—showcasing African culture and serving as the meeting point between sports and culture.”*
From Pretoria’s Kalahari Conference to Rabat’s Sahara Conference, and finally Kigali’s high-stakes Playoffs, the BAL promises speed, drama, and passion. On May 31, a new champion will rise—and with it, another powerful statement that African basketball is not just growing, but thriving on the world stage.
