Thierry Bakala Angandeh scored a goal each in both halves as Congo Republic got off to a winning start with a 2-0 win against Central Africa Republic in the 2023 Union of Football Federation of Central Africa (UNIFFAC) U20 tournament this Saturday at the Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa, DR Congo.

The Etoile du Congo forward netted Congo’s first goal of the tournament in the 40th minute and then went onto add another in the 85th as coach Clement Massamba’s team outclassed the tactics employed by Ouagole to earn their first three points of the tournament.

Bakala forced a brilliant save from Mauril midway into the first segment after collecting a fine ball from a brilliant inter-positional play.

The Red Devils continued with their dominance throughout the first segment of the game and were in total control as they clinched a fairly straightforward win in the cosy night at the refurbished Stade de Martyrs.

The exciting forward scored a brilliant free-kick from 30 yards out after Mauril Stephane Ambila made the mess of an effort that was easier to save than spill.

Though the Central Africans had two half chances in the final five minutes of the first-half goalkeeper Mailon Sayra of Congo was on hand to gather and make sure they remained in front.

CAR improved upon resumption and pushed Congo deeper into their half, but most of their incursions were stopped by Davarel Diambomba and his defensive colleagues.

Mauril made another brilliant intervention to keep it at one-nil, but it increasingly looked like it was a matter of time before lightening strike again.

Both sides made tactical and personnel changes in an attempt to achieve more from the game.

The Congolese had their way deep in the second segment as he scored from a brilliant build up play to make it 2-0.

There wasn’t much to look out for in the final five minutes plus the additional time displayed by Assistant Referee Abdel Mefire from Cameroon.

The game ended 2-0 in favor of the men from Brazaville, taking them to the top of the log.

Hosts DR Congo had their game against Gabon rescheduled due to logistics reasons.
