- The Algeria’s sealed the appointment after beating South Sudan by 8-0 in the two-leg first round qualifiers
- The game will be Cameroon’s first official match since they were beaten by Kenya in the same competition over a year ago
Algeria will clash with Cameroon’s national football team in the second round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers in October.
The fixture was confirmed on Tuesday evening after Algeria dispatched South Sudan 3-0, to complete an 8-0 aggregate win against their visitors in the second leg.
A brace from Ghoutia Karchouni and a goal from Laura Taleb Muller ensured the Algerians seal a comfortable win and get a step closer to a return to the AWCON.
Cameroon who were waved bye from the first round of the qualifiers will enter proceedings in October, hoping to make up for missing the 2024 tournament to be played next year in Morocco.
The Cameroon versus Algeria confrontation will be the Indomitable Lionesses first international game in over a year but coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck is hoping to have a squad competitive enough to better their performance last time out against Kenya.
The meeting will be the first between the nations since the Joseph Ndoko led Cameroon team beat Algeria 3-0 during AWCON 2018 in Ghana and the Algerians will certainly have that in mind while hoping to be at their best to secure a return to the AWCON scene.
The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will serve as the decider of the continent’s teams to qualify for the 2027 FIFA World Cup.
