Cameroon’s Atezambong Carine Fomo has been spotted in intense training with other Athletes as she steps up preparations for the 2024 women’s U-20 FIFA World Cup.
The experience Referee was part of the sports persons that worked on the tracks of the historic Amadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé ahead of the tournament scheduled in August and September in Colombia.

Carine made the list of six Referees from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) selected for the 2024 women’s U-20 FIFA World Cup.
The FIFA Referees Committee led by its chairman, Pierluigi Collina. announced the 18 referees and 36 assistant referees for the forthcoming tournament in Colombia this Wednesday.
Carine, assistant Referee in the recent CAF Super Cup and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been selected alongside Bangurambona Fides of Burundi, Hamdi Soukaina of Morocco plus Algeria’s Ouahab Asma Feriel as four assistants Referees from Africa. Two Referees – Konan Akissi of Cote d’Ivoire and Egyptian lady Salad Ali Shahenda complete the African team.
In a new development, four support match officials have been picked for the tournament, one of which is Togo’s Amedome Vincentia.
History will be made in Colombia with the Football Video Support (VS) trial, as FIFA continues to use technology to help referees.
The trial follows numerous requests from member associations for an alternative, cost-effective way to use technology to support match officials. In response to those requests, FIFA has developed VS, which, unlike the video assistant referee system, does not use dedicated video match officials and therefore does not check all match-changing incidents.
Instead, the onus falls on the respective head coaches, who will be allowed to make a limited number of review requests per match when they feel that an obvious error has been made in match-changing incidents, such as goals, penalty decisions, direct red-card incidents or cases of mistaken identity. The players can also recommend that their coach request a review.
The choice of Referees shows FIFA looking forward to a perfectly officiated competition that leaves it’s legacy on the hosts country.
Overseen by the FIFA Refereeing Subdivision, the officials’ preparations for this important youth competition will focus on a wide range of topics, such as their reading and understanding of the game, teamwork, and the importance of obtaining the best position or angle – being in the right place at the right time – to make the correct decision.
Having picked the best Referees across the World, FIFA director of Refereeing, Massimo Busacca will aim to achieve consistency and uniformity throughout the tournament to run from August 21 to September 23 this year.
The selected match officials will participate in a capacity building event few days before the tournament kick off of the tournament, reviewing and analysing video clips of real-match situations, and taking part in practical training sessions with players, which will be filmed to enable participants to receive instant feedback from the instructors and readiness assessed.
Carine, who was at the Women’s FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will head to her 13th international tournament in Colombia. She will arrive at the global stage again after dominating African competitions in the past years.
Having featured at two CHAN tournaments, two AFCON tournaments, two AWCON finals, the CAF Super Cup amongst others, Carine is expected to be at the peak of her powers across the period of the U-20 World Cup tournament.
