Cameroonian sensation Atezambong Carine Fomo has been named in the crack team of African-dominated officials to take charge of the Spain versus Japan eighth-final game of the 2023 U-17 FIFA World Cup on Monday, November 20.
The experienced match official is the only lady in the crew of eight officials picked by FIFA for the game at the Stadion Mahanan in Indonesia.
Carine will be second assistant referee to Gabonese duo Pierre Ghislain Atcho and Boris Marlaise Ditsoga who are Referee and first assistant referee respectively.
The Referees management arm of the World football governing body headed by Pierlugi Colina has picked Libya’s Mutaz Ibrahim as fourth official while Khalil Hassani of Tunisia complete the on-th-pitch Refereeing crew.
The Video Assistant Referees team has Rob Dieperink and Khalid Salid of the Kingdom Republic of Saudi Arabia.
The game will be Carine’s third at the tournament in Indonesia, having been involved in two group games earlier on in her debut U-17 FIFA World Cup competition.
Spain and Japan will give their best to prolong their stay in the competition. It is no different from the match officials as being in the tournament and having assignment is a function of their performance.
Going by the pace of both teams, Carine and her crew are expected to have a tough day at work.
Atezambong’s know-how and efficiency at work already earned her matches in the CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup, FIFA senior and U-20 FIFA World Cup among others in the past 12 months.
Carine is Cameroon’s sole ambassador at the ongoing tournament and her strides go beyond just officiating football matches.
At her 12th international tournament, the native from the West Region of Cameroon is inspiring young Africans, especially girls who are yet to see opportunities where the faint-hearted only see obstacles.
