The Association of Presidents of Cameroon Football Schools, Training Centers, and Academies (APECAFC) has tabled critical demands ahead of the upcoming 2024-2025 season, emphasizing the pressing issues that plague youth football in the country.
Despite their ongoing efforts since the association’s formation in 2022, promoters feel marginalized and unrecognized by the Federation, which has hindered their ability to effectively develop young talent.
Among the key requests put forth by APECAFC are the establishment of a permanent dialogue and consultation between the league and the promoters.
Additionally, they are seeking the removal of the requirement for national identity cards for players under 17, which has posed a significant barrier to participation.
Furthermore, APECAFC is calling for the waiving of fees for clubs that have fulfilled all conditions from the previous season, as well as a reduction in license fees from 5,000 FCFA to 2,000 FCFA. These financial adjustments are crucial for promoting greater participation among clubs and easing the financial burden on promoters.
Lastly, they are requesting increased subsidies for training materials and licenses to support their operations more effectively.
The underlying issues that necessitate these demands are numerous. Promoters report a lack of recognition within FECAFOOT and insufficient support from the federation. The absence of a structured youth championship further complicates matters, leaving many young players without competitive opportunities.
Additionally, there is a growing concern about the exploitation of young talent by unscrupulous agents, leading to early migration in search of better prospects abroad.
As the new season approaches, APECAFC’s demands aim to create a more supportive environment for youth football in Cameroon. By addressing these challenges head-on, they hope to ensure that young players can thrive in their home country without the looming threat of seeking opportunities elsewhere.
