French Ligue 1 side, Lille have won the race to sign Cameroonian wonderkid Angel Yondjo Matam Dorinel from established talent producer EFBC that made Vincent Aboubakar, Rigobert Song, Geremi Njitap amongst others.

The talented Cameroonian forward Angel Yondjo Matam left the shores of his country last weekend in an Air France flight. He headed to North France where he is expected to complete formalities and pen a deal till June 2030 with Losc Lille, bringing an end to interest from multiple clubs, some from the Premier League.

Reports reaching our editorial team have it that, the player who is being transferred by the same team that took Arthur Avom to Lorient, Carlos Baleba and Stephane Aris Noumbissi to Lille is expected to complete medical early this week at Lille.  Upon completing medicals he will pen a contract worth €2M which will confirm his departure from the Littoral Regional League side, EFBC.

The 2024 U-17 Union of Central African Football Federation most valuable player and top scorer of varied competitions in Cameroon will arrive at Lille with a huge reputation and expectation, reason Lille is willing to cough out the huge sum to secure his services.

Angel Yondjo in action for EFBC

When the deal pulls through, Yondjo will break the €1M record set by Steve back in 2021, and become the most expensive Cameroon-groomed export of all-time.

This means he is valued higher than Carlos Baleba Noom Quomah, Vincent Aboubakar, Njie Clinton and even the great Samuel Etoo at the time of his departure from Cameroon, all be it from different era.

Yondjo, who just turned 18, is a dreaded finisher who has scored hundreds of goals and is considered the ‘new Samuel Eto’o’ back at home due to his aptitude and all-round game which has huge semblance to that of the Cameroon football legend.

At the time of his departure from Cameroon, he has represented his country at the U-17, U-20 and Intermediate national teams and there were even calls for his to be selected to the senior team for the Africa Cup of Nations later this year in Morocco.

If Yondjo matches his domestic exploits at Lille, he will add to the club’s success story of picking young players at peanut prices and turning them into global superstars. The likes of Eden Hazard, Amadou Onana, Victor Osihmen, Jonathan David and most-recently Carlos Baleba Noom Quomah all came through the same approach and progressed to stardom.
