Andre Onana issues enigmatic response to call up for Burundi AFCON qualifier

Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Manchester United FC goalkeeper Andre Onana Onana has issued a rhetorical reaction to his call up for his country’s all-important TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier game against Burundi.

The shot stopper who hasn’t been part of the national team since he was sent home unceremoniously from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was a surprised addition to the list of 24 players made public by Rigobert Song during a press conference this Tuesday.

Just minutes after the list was published, Onana took to Instagram to drop a very popular African proverb.

“Lies bear flowers but not fruits,” Andre wrote on Instagram.

This outing from the Manchester United netminder is indicative of the uneasy calm that reigns between him and those in charge of the Indomitable Lions these days.

Reports suggests Onana has given a number of conditions as the requirement for his return to the national team.

Onana will compete with Fabrice Ondoa and Devis Epassy for the first choice spot when the five-time African champions face Burundi in a winner-takes-it-all clash on September 12 in Garoua.

If he honors the call and is played, he will add to his 13 clean sheets in 47 appearances so far for the Indomitable Lions.
