Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe and Bafmeng United FA played out an entertaining 1-1 draw last Saturday at the University of Bamenda stadium on match day nine of the MTN Elite Two championship for the 2024/25 season.

The repeat of the 2023 national interpools final was drama packed as both sides scored from a penalty spot and ISOHSA’s heroic goalkeeper Randy Nji Che was sent off late on.

The first 45 minutes of the contest saw both sides get goal mouth actions but couldn’t get the curtains raiser largely thanks to good defending and goalkeeping.

Alfred Mbita and Simo Gedeon had their names taken down for yellow cards recieved in the opening 45 minutes.

Bafmeng United FA man of the match on the day, Brilliant Awahmukalla drew first blood in the 70th minute when assistant Referee Bienvenu accorded a penalty to the host.

Brilliant’s goal was his fourth of the season and it made it consecutive games in which he has scored from the spot.

Upon conceding the goal, ISOHSA that had introduced Etengeneng Mbikem, Ngai Emile and Ghangle Rattensi pushed for the equaliser.

Bafmeng United’s strategy of holding what they had caught up with them late on when Akono Mendo was fouled in the box at the expense of a penalty. The pacy stepped up and converted in the 88th minute to make it 1-1 and take his season tally to three goals.

The hundred of fans in attendance thought they had seen enough but there was more to come.

Randy Che was sent off by Referee Paul Tchouta in additional time after he fouled Mael Dindjeke who was clear on goal.

ISOHSA had exploited their substitution opportunities thus leaving them with the option of playing center back Tebug Kingsley in goal for the rest of the additional time.

Kingsley was nearly called to make a save from the set piece taken by Junior Tangko which went narrowly wide.

The game finished 1-1, adding a point each to the two sides as ISOHSA maintains top spot while Bafmeng United are in second position with just a point behind ISOHSA on 14 points.

Eding that accumulated 15 points in the first round will have three points deducted from them for missing their match day one encounter against Djiko FC of Bandjoun.

ISOHSA will take a deserved ten days break before resuming in the second phase of the season to embark in the battle to finish in the top four of the championship and contest for a promotion place.
