FC Lorient have secured the signing of highly-rated Cameroonian defender Aboubakar Siddick on a two-year contract, in a major boost to their Ligue 2 promotion aspirations.
The 19-year-old prodigy, who has been making waves in the French second division, will look to make an immediate impact as Lorient aim to secure a return to Ligue 1.
Siddick, a product of Cotonsport of Garoua in Cameroon, has been a revelation in recent years. The towering centre-back was a key figure in Coton Sport’s three consecutive Elite One title triumphs from 2020 to 2022, showcasing his aerial dominance, composure on the ball, and ability to read the game.
His standout performances caught the eye of French outfit AJ Auxerre, who snapped him up in 2023. Siddick spent last season honing his skills with Auxerre’s B team in the National 2 league, making about 14 appearances.
The former cotonite has taken the next step in his burgeoning career, joining FC Lorient on a two-year deal. The move represents a significant coup for the Ligue 2 side, who have beaten off competition from several clubs to secure the signature of one of African football’s hottest prospects.
