Cameroon went the distance at the Abidjan African Judo Open, held on November 30th, cashing in with a formidable total of six podium spots, three gold medals and three silver medals.
This exceptional strike rate allowed the squad to take the belt as the Overall best in the senior category, while the emerging talent showed their mettle by finishing Overall 3rd in the junior category. The team returns home having secured the hardware with two prestigious trophies.
The senior team’s power play was undeniable, yielding three gold medals. Nsame Mbongo Fiona stepped up to win the Women’s -57kg category. Adjoans Nguele Gratiana continued her hot streak, taking the Women’s -63kg title.
Gratiana’s win is a significant momentum builder, marking back-to-back victories this year after going for gold at the Yaoundé Judo Open last week.
For the men, Ngae Yohane Jessie pulled off a dominant victory to secure the gold medal in the -81kg category.
The team also racked up three silver medals. These were won by Dikoum Minyem Laëtitia in the Women’s -70kg, Mogo Yves Loïc in the Men’s -90kg, and Mbezele Atangana Esther in the Women’s +78kg. The competition drew talent from 16 participating nations.
The final standings for the senior category saw Cameroon top the medal table with three gold and three silver medals. Algeria placed second with two gold and zero silver medals, four bronze .
Tunisia claimed the bronze medal position, also securing two gold and zero silver medals. Côte d’Ivoire rounded out the top four, logging one gold medal and four silver medals.
