Eding Sport Filles de la Lékié goalkeeper Laure Jolewo has become the third goalkeeper to be crowned Woman Of Guinnessico this season. She followed Christelle Beyala of Éclair Football Filles in Sa’a and Chelsea Ngole of AS Awa who were the only women to win the prize before last Sunday.
Reacting after picking the 50000 FCFA worth distinction the indomitable Lioness had some emotional words for the media.
“I’m very moved to be the 19th Woman Of Guinnessico. Last time I played a very bad match and I promised my coach I’d make up for it today. I had just planned to win this title and that’s what happened. I thank God for that and I thank the goalkeeping coach for giving me confidence,” said an emotional Laure Jolewo, wiping tears of joy from her cheeks.
In the 19th Guinnessico, goalkeeper Laure Jolewo stepped up to the plate on several occasions to save Eding from the onslaught of their opponents, promoted AS Fortuna.
Although the match would have gone in the Mfou club’s favour, Eding’s defence held firm thanks to a fit and confident Laure Jolewo.
In fact, her many decisive saves, including Catherine Mbengono’s 22nd-minute penalty, as well as well-taken shots from Foe Ndong, Meva Kolo and Mbengono, all came up against Jolewo, Eding Football Filles’ last line of defence. Asked about her save from Mbengono’s penalty, Jolewo explained: “My challenge was not to let any balls get behind my net. I was very vigilant. Above all, I had confidence in myself. Laure is a strong contender for goalkeeper of the season, having leaked the fewest number of goals this season.
