Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana and members of his family escaped without injuries after being involved in a road accident in Turkey on Thursday night, October 22, 2026, shortly after Trabzonspor’s 2-0 victory over Scottish side Hearts in the UEFA Conference League.

The incident occurred as the Indomitable Lions goalkeeper was returning home following Trabzonspor’s European triumph. Reports from Turkey indicate that Onana’s vehicle was struck from behind by another car, forcing it into the vehicle in front and resulting in a chain collision along the Yomra route near Trabzon.

Onana’s family members were reportedly travelling with him at the time of the accident. Despite the frightening circumstances and damage to the vehicles involved, the initial reports indicated that the Cameroonian international and his passengers escaped without injuries, bringing an immediate sense of relief to supporters concerned about their safety.

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan moved to reassure the public following the incident, telling Turkish broadcaster TRT Spor that Onana had been involved in an accident but that there was nothing serious to worry about. The goalkeeper was reportedly taken for medical checks as a precaution.

The accident came just hours after Onana had helped Trabzonspor secure a 2-0 win over Hearts at Papara Park, keeping a clean sheet in the Conference League fixture. What should have been a memorable night for the Cameroonian ended with an unexpected scare on the journey home.

For Cameroon supporters, the reassuring news was that Onana and his family were reported to be safe. Further official information about his medical checks and any possible impact on his availability for Trabzonspor’s upcoming fixtures had yet to be confirmed in the initial reports.
