The UEFA Pro A-qualified coach has resigned from his position as head coach of the five-time African champions after a season and a half at the club.
Noukeu sent his resignation letter to the President of the Canon Yaoundé Board of Directors a few days ago, bringing to an end a relationship that had become increasingly difficult in recent months.
His time at Canon was not without its problems. The coach had several disagreements with the club’s administration, and those issues gradually became harder to manage as the season progressed.
A few weeks ago, Noukeu, through his lawyers, formally approached the club over unpaid financial obligations. The amount involved is understood to be more than FCFA 10 million, including salary arrears and a signing-on bonus.
That financial dispute was only part of the problem. Relations between Noukeu and the administration had become increasingly strained, with recent statements from the club’s General Manager and other members of the administration adding further tension to an already uncomfortable situation.
In the end, Noukeu decided that enough was enough.
His resignation leaves Canon Yaoundé with another major decision to make as the club looks for a new man to lead the team while also trying to address the outstanding issues surrounding the coach’s departure.
For Noukeu, it is the end of a difficult chapter at one of Cameroon’s biggest football institutions — a spell that promised much but ultimately ended away from the pitch.
