Nigeria’s Super Falcons continued their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-1 victory over Senegal in an international friendly played in Ikenne-Remo on Friday.
The nine-time African champions produced a composed display against the Teranga Lionesses, with returning stars Asisat Oshoala and Toni Payne finding the net in a performance that offered further encouragement ahead of the continental tournament in Morocco.
After a lively start, Nigeria broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Oshoala calmly converted from the penalty spot. The experienced forward was making her first appearance for the Super Falcons since the WAFCON 2024 final and marked her return with a goal.
The hosts maintained control of the contest and doubled their advantage eleven minutes later through Payne, who finished off a well-worked move after sustained pressure from the Nigerian attack.
Senegal improved after the interval and managed to pull a goal back in the 86th minute, but the Super Falcons held firm to secure the win in what was the first-ever meeting between the two nations in women’s international football.
The result provides another positive step for head coach Justine Madugu and his squad as they continue building towards their title defence at WAFCON 2026. Both teams will meet again in a second friendly on June 8 in Ikenne-Remo as preparations for the tournament intensify.
