Two Cameroonian female sports journalist, Oni Ladonette Ondesa and Ngunyi Sonita Nwohtazie, have been recognized on the global sports stage for their exceptionally strides in the field.

The sports media world has always been male-dominated, but two women are getting well-deserved global recognition for breaking that mold and setting the standard for what modern sports journalism looks like.

Kick442.com is pleased to celebrate one of its writers, the incredible Oni Ladonette Ondesa, whose work has just been acknowledged globally at the recent AIPS Sports media awards in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Her insightful article on “The digital Trialist: Bridging Cameroon’s scouting gaps through media visibility” has been ranked 9th in Africa, confirming the piece is indeed a powerful and must-read write up.

Known for drawing athletes attention to branding, marketing and media visibility through her writeups on Kick442.com and across her social media handles, this recent achievement confirms her influence now goes beyond broadcasting.

The multiple award winning sports journalist has cemented her place at the intersection of sports, marketing, and brand storytelling and for many young journalists, she’s proof that consistency and personality can coexist in today’s sports world of sports.

Oni has twice been rewarded for her Sports Journalism Excellence; named Best Female Sports Journalist of 2024 by the Scoop Excellence Awards shortly after emerging Best Young Sports Journalist at the “Trophée AJSC” courtesy of her excellent delivery as former presenter of the flagship program “La Presse refait le match “ on STV.

Ngunyi Sonita is also an award winning sports journalist whose meteoric rise in the field is not going unnoticed. Over the years, the Young BSc holder of Journalism and Mass Communication and MSC holder in Cooperate communication, has remained passionate and engaged in sports reporting across the Cameroon.

Her strides, consistency and professional know-how was recognised in 2023, when she won the Victoria International Media Merit Award (VIIMMA) for the Jury International Prize for Emerging Young Reporters.

Sonita is part of a seven-member Media , Marketing and Promotion commission of the South west regional league as the lone woman, an appointment which confirms she is one of the rising stars in the field and an examplary figure to the younger generation in the southwest region predominantly dominated by Sports men. Aside from being the lone female in the group, she is the youngest member.

Sonita who has been actively engaged in sports reporting, currently works with Royal TV in Buea.

Both women are being recognized not for being “women in sports,” but for raising the standard of sports journalism itself. And as women’s sports and global viewership grow, their work shows what happens when the best voices and pens get the platform they deserve.

This marks a historic milestone in their careers going forward.
