Napoli head coach Antonio Conte has expressed concern and confusion over André-Frank Zambo Anguissa’s ongoing injury problems, admitting that even the club’s medical team has been unable to find a solution.
Speaking during a press conference, Conte stated:
Anguissa has a back problem and the doctors are not able to resolve it.”
The Italian tactician confirmed that the Cameroonian midfielder remains sidelined and is not training with the rest of the squad.
According to Italian outlet Kiss Kiss Napoli, Anguissa is suffering from a lumbar disc herniation. The condition reportedly causes nerve reflex issues and pain radiating to his leg, preventing him from carrying out normal athletic movements. As a result, his recovery timeline remains unclear, with his period of unavailability described as uncertain and potentially long.
The midfielder’s absence continues to pose challenges for Napoli, with Conte unwilling to speculate on a possible return date as medical assessments are still ongoing.
The situation is also a growing concern for Cameroon. Anguissa sustained the injury while in camp with the Indomitable Lions in Zambia during preparations ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The problem has persisted since his return to Italy, casting doubt over his availability for upcoming club fixtures and future international engagements.
A key figure for both Napoli and Cameroon in recent seasons, Anguissa’s prolonged absence would represent a significant setback as AFCON 2025 draws closer. For now, uncertainty continues to surround both the nature of the injury and the midfielder’s eventual return to competitive action.
