- Belgian coach Marc Brys has named a 26-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World qualifiers against Eswatini and Cape Verde Island
- Brys has called up Eric Choupo Moting and Kevin Nkoudou in the squad of players for the window
- The squad boasts a blend of defensive solidity, midfield creativity, and attacking prowess, poised to secure a victory in the crucial qualifiers
Marc Peter Brys, the head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon has recalled performing Eric Maxim Eric Choupo Moting and Harold Dersty Moukoudi to the national team ahead of crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Eswatini and Cabo Verde Islands.
36-year-old Choupo has been rewarded for his brilliance this season with MLS side New York Red Bulls. The MLS co-top scorer who counts 16 goals and two assists in 27 appearances this season marks his return to the team for the first time since the 2022 FIFA World as announced by kick442.com earlier this week.
Besides the above-mentioned, Brys has kept his confidence in Vincent Aboubakar who is unattached and looking for a new club these days.
Qatar-based Jean Charles Castelletto who returned to the team in the friendlies during last June window and was impressive has also been retained as one of the defensive options. Just like Aboubakar Nagida, Malcom Bokele and Patrick Soko.
The squad features established talents in every position, starting with the goalkeeping department. Andre Onana, a stalwart in goal, will be supported by Simon Omossola and Montpellier’s Simon Ngapandouetnbu, forming a robust defensive foundation.
Other key constituents of the Bryan Mbeumo, Andre Zambo Anguissa, Carlos Noom Quomah Baleba are in the team announced at the FECAFOOT headquarters this Friday, August 29.
Coach Brys hasn’t picked any player from the local scene, despite the exploits of Batoum Florent during the June window. Likely due to the close season situation of the domestic championship and non-participation in the African Nations Championship.
Club less Fai Collins misses out for the first time in the Brys era as he is yet to create a huge impact at his new Serbian club.
Wooh Christopher and Tchatchoua Jackson are expected to replicate their impressive club performances so far, while Harold Moukoudi, Nouhou Tolo, and Flavien Boyomo complete a formidable defensive unit prepared to thwart any attacking threats.
The midfield is where the Indomitable Lions can truly assert their dominance featuring the likes of Carlos Baleba, Zambo Anguissa, Martin Hongla and Yvan Neyou.
Each of these players brings unique skills and experience, creating a dynamic midfield capable of transitioning from defense to attack seamlessly.
The full squad count three goalkeepers, eight defenders, eight midfielders and seven forwards led by record man Vincent Aboubakar.
