The President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o has found himself at the core of a corruption scandal creating upheavals in the nation’s game. Mounting questions are being raised over the future of the football under Eto’o’s regime.
A coalition of the Cameroonian players, represented by international lawyer Emmanuel Nsahlai has filed coordinated lawsuits against FECAFOOT and several officials.
The cases aim to address alleged financial and administrative irregularities under Eto’o’s leadership. According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, these lawsuits highlight growing concerns over governance in Cameroon football.
The allegations against Eto’o and FECAFOOT includes his 22-month suspended prison sentence in Spain for tax fraud.
There are also claims of corruption, possible match fixing and alleged bribes linked to a betting company. The football legend also faces a case of mismanaging 1.5million dollars from friendly matches against Mexico, Russia and South Korea.
The Cameroon Football Federation has also been accused of suppressing dissent with controversial 10year suspension of execution member Guibai Gatama.
There are also claims of manipulating internal regulations to block independent candidates from elections.
Lawyer Nsahlai stressed “This is not an attack on Samuel Eto’o, the player whose career remains untouchable….This is about saving the Cameroonian football from governance failures and ensuring transparency, integrity and fairness”
This scandal comes as Cameroon prepares for the 2026 FIFA world Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada placing the spotlight on CAF and FIFA to make decisions regarding the situation .
