- Bryan Mbeumo scored Brentford’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to Tottenham in the Premier League on September 21
- The Cameroonian forward found the net within the first minute, but Spurs quickly equalized and took control of the match with two additional goals
- Despite Mbeumo’s impressive form at the club level, he has struggled to replicate that success with the national team, netting just two goals in over seven appearances
Cameroon’s most expensive player, Bryan Mbeumo, netted Brentford’s lone goal in their 3-1 defeat against Tottenham on matchday six of the Premier League on Saturday, September 21.
The 25-year-old opened the scoring with a stunning volley just 22 seconds in, capitalizing on a pinpoint cross from Keane Lewis-Potter to give the Bees an early lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, the hosts equalized just seven minutes later when Dominic Solanke pounced on a rebound after Mark Flekken parried James Maddison’s initial effort directly into his path.
Tottenham completed the turnaround in the 28th minute, with Brennan Johnson finishing off a lightning-fast counterattack by drilling home from a tight angle.
Guglielmo Vicario then produced a superb reflex save to deny Kevin Schade’s header midway through the second half, a crucial intervention that kept Spurs in front.
The hosts sealed their victory five minutes from time when Maddison rounded off another swift break by delicately lobbing a stranded Flekken.
This goal marked Mbeumo’s fourth of the season, showcasing his determination to bounce back after an injury-ravaged campaign that saw him finish last season with nine goals in 25 appearances.
With Saturday outcome, Brentford sits 12 on the premier league table with six points, one less than Manchester United
However, his international form remains a concern; in over seven caps for Cameroon, the former France U21 player has managed just two goals, with many of his performances falling short of the standards he sets at Brentford.
The next international break comes up in October and in his current form, fans will be looking forward to a better performance against Kenya.
