Rīgas Futbola Skola have reemphasized their latest title search in the Latvian Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 win away to Valmiera this Friday afternoon at the Vidzemes Olimpiskais centrs.
Cameroon keeper, Ondoa played a telling role to secure the match day 29 win but Janis Ikaunieks grabbed the headlines as he converted two first-half penalties to ensure the visitors leave Valmiera with all three points.
Janis beat Davis Oss from the spot just 13 minutes into the contest after a careless challenge in the box handed the initiative to the visitors. Another penalty goal just before the interval made it a tall order for the host.
Though Congolese forward Jason Bahamboula halfed the deficit after the interval the visitors sealed their defensive formation with the help of Ondoa’s experience which ensured they defended resolutely till the end.
With the visitors seeking the assurance goal, coach Viktors Morozs of Rīgas Futbola Skola brought in Cameroonian forward Rostand Ndjiki in place of Cedric Kouadio with just around 30 minutes of regulation time left on the clock.
The push to get the third goal didn’t yield the expected fruits though they were chances for the third just like Valmiera could have gotten the equalizer.
The 2-1 score remained unchanged despite the massive personnel change from both dugouts.
At the blast of the final whistle from Golubevs A, Ondoa and co produced scenes of celebrations upon getting the better of one of the direct rivals this season.
The latest win is Rīgas’ 22 in 27 games so far in the season they have only suffered two defeats. The club consolidates narrow lead in the Virsliga.
Rīgas Futbola Skola with 69 points open a four points gap on direct title contender Riga FC though they have two games in hand.
