The 2024 edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), to be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, is scheduled to take place from February 1 to February 28, 2025.
Rogers Byamukama, a member of the FUFA Executive Committee, confirmed these dates during the unveiling of the new Uganda Cranes kit on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
“The information we have is that CHAN will occur from February 1 to February 28, 2025, and the three East African PAMOJA countries will be authorized to host,” Byamukama stated.
This East African trio received hosting rights in September and will use this biennial competition as preparation for the hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has conducted inspections of the infrastructure in these countries in the lead-up to the tournament. The schedule for the qualifiers is expected to be announced soon.
The 2024 CHAN tournament marks its eighth edition, featuring 18 participants for the second time. This tournament is dedicated to players competing in their home country’s local leagues, with potential inclusion of players from leagues across Africa.
Senegal are the defending champions, while Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the most successful teams, each with two titles.
Cameroon, who suffered a group stage exit in the last edition in Algeria, has participated in five of the last seven tournaments, achieving a best finish of fourth in 2021.
