Cotonsport officials led by its president Fernand Sadou, joined their peers on Thursday, November 30 in Cairo as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) launched the African Club Association (ACA).
The Dr Patrice Motsepe-driven institution was put in place in the hitch free event and its immediate officials tasks to protect and promote the interest of African Football Clubs, ensure that they are commercially viable, globally competitive and profitable, to build partnerships with sponsors, the private sector and Governments to build stadiums that comply with CAF and FIFA standards and other football infrastructure and facilities in each of the 54 CAF Member Associations among others.
Nairobi, Kenya has chosen as the headquarters of the institution that will also target maximum respect and credibility for Referees, Match Commissioners and VAR operators among others.
The General Assembly of ACA co-opted Yanga SC’s Hirsi Said as its pioneer president while Jessica Matoung from South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs picked up the first vice position, and Akwa United of Nigeria’s Paul Bassey was made second second vice president.
A 15-board was also elected at the gathering. Two persons were picked from each sub region while three other persons to represent Women’s Football were added to the board.
ACA activities including to develop African youth talent, academies for boys and girls and improve the quality of African Club football will begin immediately.
Officials of Bamboutos FC of Mbouda were also part of the over 40 club representative that brainstormed to ensure the birth of the historic institution.
