The Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea could miss the draw and the qualifier of the 2026 FIFA World Cup if they fail to clear their debts with their former employers per FIFA directives.
The country’s minister of Youths and Sports Patricio Bakale Mba, was informed about the situation through the Equatorial Guinea football federation (FEGUIFOOT) boss Venancio Tomás Ndong Michá this week.
FIFA is unhappy with the country after they received complaints of unpaid dues from former coaches Esteban Becker and Miguel Ángel Pozanco dating as far back as 2017.
“If the debt is not paid, FIFA will definitively expel Equatorial Guinea from the 2026 World Cup,” Ndong Michá stated.
The group stage draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the African zone will take place in July, but without quick action Equatorial Guinea will miss draw.
We understand the Sports minister has promised to brief the country’s vice president HE Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue on the issue to be resolved.
In the meantime, he has also instructed the country’s football governing body FEGUIFOOT to propose ways out of the crisis between the concerned.
