- Atezambong Fomo Carine will appear at her 13th international tournament during the 2024 U-20 FIFA World Cup match up of Costa Rica and Netherlands tonight
- She has featured at the CHAN, CAF Champions League, FIFA Women’s World Cup, AFCON among others
- Carine was the only Cameroonian Referee at the last Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand
The Referee Commission of the World Football governing body, FIFA, has named an African collection of Konan Natacha from Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon’s Atezambong Carine Fomo and Bangurambona Fides from Burundi as the Referees and assistant Referees for tonight’s meeting between Costa Rica and Netherlands at the Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero.
Carine who will be appearing at her thirteenth international tournament will complement Natacha who was Referee in the final of the All Africa games earlier this year in Ghana.
The African Referees will have Reibelt Casey from Australia as fourth official while Croatia’s Petravic Maja is the reserve assistant Referee and Drummond Mathiew will be the replay operator.
Costa Rica and Netherlands will begin their U20 Women’s World Cup campaign when they clash this Monday.
This is La Sele of Costa Rica’s fifth appearance at the tournament and will be looking to make it past the group stage for the first time, while the Dutch aim to better their fourth-placed finish in 2022.
Goalkeeper Genesis Perez will lead as captain from the back, while Jimena Rodriguez and Josselyn Briceno could feature at the heart of the defence.
Head coach Ana Aguillar is likely to start with the front pair of Sheika Scott and Montserrat Diaz, while Sianyf Aguero joins the attack from the left side.
Netherlands head coach Roos Kwakkenbos is likely to name a similar lineup from last month’s preparatory game against Spain.
Femke Lieftin should start in goal, while Fleke Kroese is likely to spearhead the attack, with Djoeke de Ridder and Veerle Burrman marshalling the backline.
Cameroon’s Atezambong is one of six Referees from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) selected for the 2024 women’s U-20 FIFA World Cup ongoing in Colombia.
The sensational Referee who was at the Women’s FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will be an attraction with her performance in Colombia. She will showcase at the global stage again after dominating African competitions in the past years.
Having featured at two CHAN tournaments, two AFCON tournaments, two AWCON finals, the CAF Super Cup amongst others, Carine is expected to be at the peak of her powers across the period of the U-20 World Cup tournament beginning from tonight’s game.
