Cape Verde will meet nine-time African champions, Nigeria in the Second Round of 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers in November.
The island Nations defeated Liberia 3-2 in the return leg of First Round clash on Tuesday.
The first leg ended 3-0 in favour of Cape Verde at home.
Evy Pereira, Alcione Gomes, and Kleydiana Borges scored for Cake Verde while goals from Pauline Agbotsu and Hawa Kpan couldn’t stop Cape Verde from a 6-2 win on aggregate.
Sao Tome and Principe’s withdrawal meant Nigeria and Cape Verde would face off with the winner of the two-legged tie making it to the tournament next year.
Meanwhile, Tanzania stunned Ivory Coast on penalties to seal a passage into the Second Round.
Goals from Donisia Minja and Opa Clement ensured a 2-2 draw on aggregate which took the game into penalties.
The host, Tanzania came out with a 4-2 win on penalties.
Overall, Senegal, Egypt, Mali, Guinea, Nigeria, Cape Verde, Algeria, Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, DR Congo, Tanzania, Togo, Ghana, Namibia, Kenya, Botswana, Tunisia, Angola, and Burkina Faso made it to the Second Round.
They will be joined by holders, South Africa, and the last tournament bronze medalist, Zambia in the Second Round.
