After scoring two goals to help Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa) to a 3-0 win over Athletico FC (Ivory Coast) in the final Group A game of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League at the Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Korogho, Ivory Coast, on Saturday, Refilwe Tebogo Tholakele like Oliver Twist wants more as she activated the contest for the top goal scorer.
Tholakele and AS Mande star Oumou Kone are tied with three goals at the top of the goal scorers chart but the Malian have played a game less ahead of today’s final Group B clash with holders, ASFAR FC.
The South African champions topped their group for the third consecutive edition after second-half goals from Matoba Cisse and Refilwe Tebogo who scored twice in the Group A match.
Tholakele is on cloud nine and looks forward to adding to her goal tally before the end of the tournament.
“It was a great feeling to be on the score sheet. I am looking forward to scoring more goals,” Tholakeke told journalists after the game.
“We worked hard as a team and it helped us to score more goals in the second half. We saw that they were tired.
“We will play our next game with the same determination and spirit as we did during our first games irrespective of the team that we will be playing whether ASFAR FC or Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.” She concluded.
COSAFA (Southern Africa) champions will face the second-placed team from Group B in the semi-final after the conclusion of today’s games in San Pedro and Korogho respectively.
They were joined by debutant, Sporting Club Casablanca (Morocco) which sealed a 4-1 win against fellow debutant JKT Queens (Tanzania).
