Holders of the CAF Women’s Champions League, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa will face Edo Queens in the group stage of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
The clash will rekindle the South Africa/Nigeria rivalry in women’s football as both sides will also face Tutankhamun (Egypt) and another debutant, Commerical Bank of Ethiopia FC, in Group A.
Sundown Ladies have defeated two Nigeria teams, Rivers Angels (1-0) and Bayelsa Queens (2-1), in two previous editions of the tournament in 2021 and 2022.
The South African side won the tournament twice in 2021 and 2023, while the host, AS FAR FC, won the 2022 edition on home soil.
The Moroccan side will play Aigles de la Medina (Senegal), TP Mazembe (Democratic Republic of Congo), and University of Western Cape (South Africa) in Group A.
This will be the third time that a Northern African country will host the competition.
Egypt hosted the maiden edition in 2021 while Morocco staged the tournament in 2022.
Cote d’Ivoire welcomed other seven African teams for the tournament in 2023 in preparation for the hosting of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League will kick off on November 9 in the North African nation.
