Ghanian women’s league and West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) champions, Ampem Darkoa are confident of securing a semi-final berth at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League is taking place in Ivory Coast as the team prepares to face Equatorial Guinea and UNIFFAC (Central Africa) champions, Huracanes on Sunday.
The Head coach of Ampem Darkoa, Nana Joe Adarkwa, and the captain Abena Opoku Anoma met with journalists for their pre-match press conference at the Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Korohgo on Saturday.
The coach is hell-bent on picking a win which will go a long way in securing a berth in the final four of the tournament.
“In the first match, we adopted 4-3-3 which was our major formation for our team. A team can play all the formations they need to adopt in a game but can’t win all the matches because some coaches can outwith your best system of formation,” Adarkwa told journalists.
“Whatever it is you can go to the training ground and correct the mistakes with the players and then focus on the next game. That is why we are here which is to win the next game so that we can qualify for the semi-final.
“We have three points while our opponent has a point. That is not our focus. We are watching every match concerning our group. What we are thinking about right now is winning our last group game, We are not going to take chances and are not watching the other match. We have to win our match first and ultimately qualify.”
For Anoma, she believes her team can win the match and make it to the semi-final in their debut appearance at the tournament.
She said: “We have prepared ourselves and focussed on this game believing that we are going to win this match because the last game wasn’t our game but we are going to win the next game.”
Ampem Darkoa and Huracanes are making their debut appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League and hope to make it to the semi-final.
